MANILA — In response to President Benigno Aquino III\u2019s invitation, Indonesian President Susilo\u00a0Bambang Yudhoyono concludes his first bilateral visit in the country today.<\/p>\n

As scheduled, the Indonesian president spent his first day yesterday attending the\u00a0World Economic Forum on East Asia (WEF-EA).<\/p>\n

Today, he is expected to meet with President Aquino for an expanded bilateral meeting\u00a0concerning political, defense and border, maritime, socio-cultural and economic\u00a0cooperation.<\/p>\n

The two countries have earlier accomplished their landmark agreement to end their\u00a0decades-long conflict on the overlapping exclusive economic zones between Mindanao\u00a0and Celebes Seas.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe key challenge in addressing inequity is how to ensure that those at the bottom and\u00a0middle also enjoy the same, if not more, socioeconomic mobility as those at the top;\u00a0hence, mobility for all,\u201d Yudhoyono told business and political leaders during the WEF-EA.\u00a0A state dinner is also expected to be held today in honor of the Indonesian president\u2019s\u00a0visit where he is to be awarded with the Order of Sikatuna with the rank of Raja.<\/p>\n

PH-Indonesian resolution hailed<\/strong><\/p>\n

Foreign affairs official has earlier hailed the Philippines and Indonesia\u2019s resolution\u00a0of their decades-long maritime dispute over waters off the country\u2019s tip as a \u201cgood\u00a0example\u201d of conflict resolution among nations.<\/p>\n

In a statement referring to the country\u2019s territorial dispute with China, Assistant\u00a0Secretary Charles Jose, spokesman of the Department of Foreign Affairs said that such\u00a0resolution is important because it serves as an example of a peaceful way to resolve\u00a0disputes.<\/p>\n

According to DFA, the resolution was reached following almost 20 years of negotiations\u00a0made by both countries.<\/p>\n

In contrast with the country\u2019s territorial dispute with China, that of Indonesia does not\u00a0involve territories or land and rock forms.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was the maritime boundary delimitation. There was an overlapping EEZ between\u00a0the Philippines and Indonesia in the Celebes Sea and Mindanao Sea. So the boundary\u00a0that we are talking about is all on water,\u201d Jose explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a good example. It took us 20 years to conclude the negotiations. So we can be\u00a0assured that we have patience, that we can negotiate that long,\u201d Jose added.<\/p>\n
