MANILA — A National Police Commission employee was arrested in Makati City on Thursday for\u00a0allegedly withdrawing P200,000 in case using the ATM card of one of Napolcom\u2019s\u00a0commissioners.<\/p>\n

Napolcom Commissioner Alejandro Urro filed a complaint against the personnel after it\u00a0allegedly stole the ATM card from him and used it to withdraw the money.<\/p>\n

The Philippine National Police\u2019s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group arrested the\u00a0driver as a response to Urro\u2019s petitions.<\/p>\n

CIDG mentioned on its Facebook page that the Napolcom employee worked as Urro\u2019s\u00a0driver and that they now have the CCTV footage as evidence against the suspect.<\/p>\n

Poe appeals for bank\u2019s help<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last March, Senator Grace Poe already made an appeal for banks to help protect their\u00a0clients against ATM fraud.<\/p>\n

This was after she earlier called on representatives from the Bangko Sentral ng\u00a0Pilipinas and from commercial banks for a Senate committee hearing on ATM fraud.<\/p>\n

In an interview for radio dzBB Poe explained that ATM fraud and other related problems\u00a0could affect most of the country\u2019s 40 million bank depositors adding that the number of\u00a0ATM fraud criminals may grow as the economy grows.<\/p>\n

As a solution to the problem, Poe suggests that banks move from the magnetic strip\u00a0already used in ATM cards today to computer chip technology which according to her is\u00a0not easier to tamper with.<\/p>\n

Poe also called on the police department\u2019s Anti-Cybercrime Group to help combat the\u00a0existing ATM fraud cases.<\/p>\n
