MANILA\u00a0— Senator Paolo Benigno Aquino IV on Wednesday welcomed the pronouncement of President Rodrigo Duterte that the family of the late President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is willing to return to the government their alleged ill-gotten wealth.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is something\u00a0na mahalaga sa ating kasaysayan. Kinakailangan ng ating bayan\u00a0<\/em>to be able to move forward\u00a0— \u2018yung<\/em>\u00a0admission\u00a0na ninakaw \u2018yan at pagbabalik ng pera<\/em>\u00a0(This is something important for our history. Our people need to be able to move forward — the admission that it was stolen and returning the money),\u201d Aquino told reporters in an interview.<\/p>\n

Aquino, meanwhile, expressed hope that the Marcoses would return the wealth \u201cin full.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not against\u00a0na ibalik ng mga<\/em>\u00a0Marcos\u00a0yung pera<\/em>.\u00a0Ang magandang tanong \u2018magkano doon sa kinuha nila\u2019? Sana po yung kabuuan ang ibalik sa ‘tin<\/em>.\u00a0 (I\u2019m not against the Marcoses returning their wealth. But the question is \u2018how much of what they have stolen?\u2019 I hope they return the amount in full),\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Aquino said that it was important to find out from the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG), which was created to run after the illegally-amassed wealth of the Marcoses, how much the family owed the government.<\/p>\n

\u201cMagkano ito? Itong magandang alamin natin sa<\/em>\u00a0PCGG, sa human rights victims\u00a0At hindi naman po tama na baka naman maliit na porsiyento lang yan sa kabuuan na ninakaw sa atin. Kung maibabalik man, dapat yung kabuuan yung ibabalik niyan<\/em>\u00a0(How much is it? It will be good to find out from the PCGG and human rights victims. Because it is not right if they return only a small percentage of the amount stolen from us. If it is ever returned, it should be returned in full),\u201d Aquino said.<\/p>\n

He said that the \u201cwhole world\u201d has accepted that the Marcoses have stolen money from the government, and refused to accept rumors that the money was merely stored for safe-keeping.<\/p>\n

\u201cKung totoong tinago lang \u2018yun dapat matagal na nilang binalik yun. Tanggap naman po ng buong mundo na ninakaw po yung perang yan at dapat lang ibalik na nila yan<\/em>\u00a0(If it\u2019s true they merely kept it, they should have returned it a long time ago.
