MANILA\u00a0<\/strong>\u2014 Malaca\u00f1ang on Tuesday expressed concern over infighting among Commission on Elections (Comelec) officials and urged all concerned to resolve their differences for the effective fulfillment of the agency\u2019s mandate.<\/p>\n

“We cannot but be concerned that Comelec work is being affected by recent travails,” Presidential Spokesman Ernesto Abella said in a Palace briefing.<\/p>\n

“Without unduly interfering or influencing the commission, we urge all parties to work together for the full performance of its duties,” Abella said.<\/p>\n

The Palace official issued the statement following a brewing conflict between Comelec chairman Andres Bautista and the election agency\u2019s commissioners.<\/p>\n

Last Thursday, all six Comelec commissioners have asked Bautista to either take a leave or resign after an impeachment case was filed against the agency chair.<\/p>\n

The embattled election official is also embroiled in a bitter public dispute with his estranged wife.<\/p>\n

Patricia, had accused her husband of possessing PHP1 billion in unexplained wealth.<\/p>\n

The events are unfolding as the Comelec prepares for the village and youth elections in October.<\/p>\n
