The official declined to disclose total investments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSurvey of the area is on-going and they are targeting to start supplying power by September next year,\u201d Agustin said.<\/p>\n<p>Marubeni&#8217;s construction of a power plant will help ensure power stability for two major LIDE locators \u2013 Philippine Phosphate Fertilizer Corporation (PhilPhos) and Philippine Associated Smelting and Refining Corporation (PASAR).<\/p>\n<p>PhilPhos is the country\u2019s leading producer of phosphatic fertilizer with a rated capacity of 1.17 million metric tons every year.<\/p>\n<p>PASAR, on the other hand, owns and operates the only copper smelter and refinery in the country. Its primary product is the electrolytic copper cathodes, the raw material used for manufacturing various kinds of electric cables, telecommunication wires, copper shapes and copper-alloy products.<\/p>\n<p>Both firms directly get their power supply needs from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, sourced from the nearby Leyte Geothermal Power Plant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will now have an alternative energy source with the new power plant inside LIDE. Operations will not be disrupted in case of power shutdown caused by natural calamities,\u201d Agustin told reporters.<\/p>\n<p>Located in this town, LIDE is owned by the National Development Company, a government-owned and -controlled corporation attached to the Department of Trade and Industry.
