(PNA Photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As the country commemorates National Heroes\u2019 day, President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday honored and acknowledged the country\u2019s national heroes and their contribution to nation building and independence.<\/p>\n<p>In his National Heroes\u2019 Day message, Duterte said that the best way to honor the country\u2019s heroes\u2014who he described as \u201cmen and women who helped lay the foundations of this nation\u201d\u2014is through upholding the rule of law and emulating their virtues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, we pay homage to the men and women who helped lay the foundations of this nation. Their courage, leadership and wisdom paved the way for us to enjoy the blessings of freedom, independence and democracy,\u201d the president said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that this country\u2019s heroes dedicated their lives ensure that future generations will have a life that is full and comfortable.<\/p>\n<p>He further added that this nation will harness the same virtues by continuing to fight against lawlessness, criminality and poverty which obstruct the country from achieving its full potential.<\/p>\n<p>Duterte said that the nation will be forever grateful for their noble deeds and sacrifices.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we commemorate the life and works of our national heroes, we must continue to embrace their ways in our daily undertakings.
