(Photo by Lauro Montellano Jr.\/Malaca\u00f1ang Photo Bureau)\" width=\"800\" height=\"546\" srcset=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/ph1-041916_LM1.jpg 800w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/ph1-041916_LM1-300x205.jpg 300w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/ph1-041916_LM1-768x524.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-74445\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">FILE: Benigno &#8220;Noynoy&#8221; Aquino III (April 18) (Photo by Lauro Montellano Jr.\/Malaca\u00f1ang Photo Bureau)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After reading President Rodrigo Roa Duterte\u2019s words for Benigno \u201cNinoy\u201d Aquino\u2019s 34<sup>th<\/sup> death anniversary, the former President is thankful but made a plea for Duterte to reread his own words.<\/p>\n<p>Former President Benigno \u201cNoynoy\u201d Aquino III thanked Duterte on Monday at the Manila Memorial Park in Para\u00f1aque. \u201c<em>Siguro pakiusap ko lang, baka pwedeng paminsan-minsan babasahin po niya ulit ito, dahil galing naman po sa kanya ang salita<\/em> (But I appeal to him that perhaps, at times he should read it again because these were his words),\u201d Aquino said.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, Duterte released a statement, joining the Filipino people in commemoration of Ninoy Aquino\u2019s death anniversary, in which the President echoed a well-known quote: \u201cThrough his words of wisdom, let us reflect on his life and realize that, indeed the Filipino is worth dying for.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In his statement, Duterte said that Ninoy inspired a peaceful revolution that has given the Philippines the freedom its citizens enjoy today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven at a time when hope was lost, he remained steadfast in his struggle to restore democracy through non-violent means. His deeds have taught us that we should always aspire for the common good \u2013 even if one must go against the grain \u2013 and do what is necessary,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>The former president said that he believes that the message was \u2018heartfelt\u2019 and hoped that Duterte would read it from \u2018time to time.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Aquino mentioned that he used to do the same thing while in office. \u201c<em>Marami akong dating iniiwan na babasahin sa drawer sa mesa ko sa opisina dahil palagay ko magandang-maganda \u2018yung sinabi. Dapat tandaan <\/em>(In the office, I used to have a lot of readings in my table\u2019s drawer for I think if it is really remarkable, I must remember),\u201d he said in an interview.<\/p>\n<p>Aquino told the crowd that the Philippines has problems and will face a lot more in the future. But he said that what makes the situation \u2018painful\u2019 is facing the same problem even after 34 years.
