Melvin Castro, Catholic Bishops\u2019 Conference of the Philippines\u2019 (CBCP) executive\u00a0secretary of Episcopal Commission on Family and Life ,said that Rosal&#8211;though\u00a0arrested and accused of rebellion&#8211;should not be deprived of seeing her baby for the last\u00a0time.<\/p>\n<p>Last Tuesday, Judge Toribio Ilao Jr. of the Pasig City Court Branch 226 denied Rosal\u2019s\u00a0request to attend the baby\u2019s burial who died in a hospital because of hypoxemia, an\u00a0oxygen deficiency in the arterial blood which also causes respiratory disorders because\u00a0of the lack of oxygen supply in the body.<\/p>\n<p>Rosal was arrested last march by authorities in Caloocan and was only allowed to\u00a0attend the wake of her baby in Taft Avenue, Manila for three hours on May 21.<\/p>\n<p>Ilao explained in an interview for the Philippine Daily Inquirer that he partially granted\u00a0the motion which sought for a three-day leave to attend both the wake and the burial.<\/p>\n<p>Rosal was not allowed to attend the baby\u2019s funeral in her hometown in Ibaan, Batangas\u00a0because of her medical condition.<\/p>\n<p>Ilao said he \u201cpartially granted\u201d Rosal\u2019s motion, which had sought a three-day leave to\u00a0attend the wake and burial, after Rosal asked for \u201chuman consideration\u201d and despite the\u00a0prosecution insisting that she was a \u201chigh risk\u201d prisoner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe appeal to the government to allow Rosal to attend the burial of her baby,\u201d Castro\u00a0said in an interview for the Manila Bulletin.<\/p>\n<p>He also added that Rosal is \u201cfirst and foremost a mother\u201d and that she had already been\u00a0deprived of her rights to receive medical care while pregnant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was already deprived of her basic human and maternal right to receive\u00a0appropriate medical care during her pregnancy.
