In the midst of national outrage on the apparent \u2018one time, big time\u2019 anti-illegal drug operations of the Duterte administration, the Senate majority seeks to conduct probe over the killing of 17-year-old Kian Delos Santos in Caloocan City on Wednesday night, August 16.<\/p>\n

Senators signed a resolution on Sunday condemning the \u201crecent spate of police abuses\u201d,\u00a0mainly the killing of Delos Santos.<\/p>\n

\u201cExpressing the sense of the senate to condemn the killing of Kian Delos Santos and to direct the appropriate senate committee to conduct an inquiry in aid of legislation to determine the accountability of the Philippine National Police in the conduct of the campaign against illegal drugs that may have resulted in unnecessary and unjustified deaths and\/or killings,\u201d the resolution read.<\/p>\n

Several recent drug operations conducted by the Philippine National Police (PNA) were also included in the resolution.<\/p>\n

The resolution was signed by Senate President Aquilino \u201cKoko\u201d Pimentel III, Senate Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III, and Senate President Pro-Tempore Ralph Recto and other senators Sonny Angara,\u00a0Nancy Binay,\u00a0JV Ejercito,\u00a0Francis \u201cChiz\u201d Escudero,\u00a0Win Gatchalian,\u00a0Richard Gordon,\u00a0Gregorio \u201cGringo\u201d Honasan,\u00a0Panfilo \u201cPing\u201d Lacson,\u00a0Loren Legarda,\u00a0Manny Pacquiao, Grace Poe, Joel Villanueva,\u00a0Cynthia Villar, Miguel Zubiri.<\/p>\n

The senate\u2019s resolution regarded the recent operations as \u201cexcessive and unnecessary.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd to direct the appropriate senate committee to inquire and review the conduct of anti-drug operations by the PNP as well as capacitating the PNP as an institution to hold erring officials within their ranks liable for commission of any crime or offense,\u201d the resolution read.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile government institutions that are tasked with leading the campaign against illegal drugs must be fully empowered to undertake their responsibilities, they should, with equal fervor, be held accountable to the Filipino people in the conduct of this campaign.\u201d<\/p>\n

Taking their parts in the investigation, the\u00a0National Bureau of Investigation (NBI)\u00a0and the\u00a0Commission on Human Rights (CHR)\u00a0are also separately conducting an inquiry over Kian\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, Senators Ejercito and Villanueva shared a photo on their twitter accounts of their majority caucus; directing appropriate committee to conduct investigation.<\/p>\n
