(Photo By Source, Fair use)<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>OTTAWA \u2014 At least two Quebec men have been identified after they travelled south to participate in a white supremacist rally last week in Charlottesville, Va.<\/p>\n<p>One of them took to Facebook to express his anger after an anti-fascist group posted a screen capture from the event that showed his face and that of four other men.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese people are idiots who drive forward the globalist media narrative to silence anyone who is right of centre,\u201d Shawn Beauvais-MacDonald wrote on his Facebook page.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesman for right-wing group La Meute said<\/p>\n<p>Beauvais-MacDonald&#8217;s membership was suspended pending an<\/p>\n<p>investigation into the rally attendance.<\/p>\n<p>La Meute \u201cformally dissociates itself from white supremacist groups, racist groups and violent groups of all political orientations,\u201d Sylvain Brouillette told The Canadian Press in an email.<\/p>\n<p>A second Quebec man, whose photo was also published on social media, said he travelled to Virginia partly for his own amusement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI did it mostly &#8216;For the lulz,&#8217; meaning I expected to be entertained and it was indeed the case,\u201d Vincent Belanger-Mercure told The Canadian Press in a Facebook message.<\/p>\n<p>Belanger-Mercure said while he isn&#8217;t a white supremacist, \u201cI&#8217;m not ashamed of being white either,\u201d and added that attempts to make all cultures uniform \u201cmake the beauty of the world disappear.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The photos of the men were pulled from a report on the Charlottesville event made by Vice with the collaboration of HBO.<\/p>\n<p>The administrator of the anti-Pegida Quebec Facebook page republished screen grabs from the report and encouraged the public to identify the men.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cUnite the Right\u201d rally in Virginia resulted in violent clashes between white supremacist groups, including neo-Nazis and Ku Klux Klan (KKK), and the other camp, which was made up of activists opposed to the policies of the self-described \u201calt-right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One woman was killed and several people were injured after a vehicle plowed into a crowd of people.<\/p>\n<p>The suspected driver, James Alex Fields, is facing several charges, including one of second-degree murder.<\/p>\n<p>The event has prompted provincial and federal politicians, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, to speak out against racism and hate.<\/p>\n<p>In Quebec, International Relations Minister Christine St-Pierre has warned that the province&#8217;s international reputation could take a hit due to the increased visibility of homegrown far-right groups.<\/p>\n<p>These include La Meute, which is planning a demonstration in Quebec City on Sunday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>OTTAWA \u2014 At least two Quebec men have been identified after they travelled south to participate in a white supremacist &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":33,"featured_media":112808,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[18,16],"tags":[21144,10562,21453],"class_list":["post-112802","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-news-ca","category-news","tag-charlottesville","tag-quebecers","tag-white-supremacist-rally","mauthors-melanie-marquis","mauthors-the-canadian-press"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/112802","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/33"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=112802"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/112802\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/112808"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=112802"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=112802"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=112802"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
