(PCOO photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar had involved himself in the state-run newswire Philippine News Agency (PNA) by creating and heading its editorial board.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Board will act as the gatekeeper. All stories must pass under its scrutiny,\u201d Andanar said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>PNA filled the news recently on its two consecutive blunders which pushed the secretary to conduct an investigation.<\/p>\n<p>First was on August 6 after publishing a commentary from Xinhua News Agency calling the historic ruling of the Hague an \u2018ill-founded award\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The second was on August 11 when an article about Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) was posted attaching the logo of Dole \u2013 a canned-pineapple manufacturer \u2013 instead of the department\u2019s logo.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with DZMM on August 14, Andanar said that he was in the middle of the investigation of the Xinhua-commentary-case when the DOLE\/Dole case happened.<\/p>\n<p>In a meeting with PNA and its staff, Andanar emphasized that as a government-run agency, it is expected to uphold and perform the \u2018highest standards of professionalism,\u2019 and that the people expect nothing less than proficiency.<\/p>\n<p>Spearheaded by Andanar, the editorial board will include Undersecretary Jose Joel Sy Egco, who is also the Executive Director of the Presidential Task Force on Violence Against Media Workers, PCOO Assistant Secretary Lawrence Garcia, journalist and PCOO consultant Alberta Gamboa, PNA chief Virginia Arcilla-Agtay, and PNA Acting Executive Editor Louie Morente.<\/p>\n<p>In the same interview with DZMM, Andanar mentioned that the consecutive mistakes are not acceptable. \u201c<em>Unahin po natin iyong pag<\/em>-upload <em>nila ng<\/em> picture <em>ng<\/em> Vietnam War, <em>tapos pangalawa iyong<\/em> inaccurate <em>na<\/em> report <em>po tungkol kay<\/em> Assistant Secretary Densing, <em>tapos pangatlo, iyong sa<\/em> Xinhua, <em>pang-apat itong sa<\/em> Dole Philippines (First is the uploading of the Vietnam War picture, second is the inaccurate report on Assistant Secretary Densing, third is with Xinhua, and fourth is with the Dole Philippines),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, Andanar stressed that PCOO will do \u2018whatever is necessary\u2019 for the improvement of the PNA services.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar had involved himself in the state-run newswire Philippine News Agency (PNA) by creating and heading &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":33,"featured_media":78085,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1145,16,95],"tags":[11043,21211,9640],"class_list":["post-111968","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-headline","category-news","category-news-ph","tag-andanar","tag-editorial-board","tag-pna","mauthors-bea-kirstein-t-manalaysay","mauthors-philippine-canadian-inquirer"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/111968","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/33"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=111968"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/111968\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/78085"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=111968"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=111968"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=111968"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
