MOSCOW, Aug. 13<\/strong>\u00a0— US Vice President Mike Pence starts his trip to Central and South America on Sunday.<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0the White House, Pence will travel to\u00a0Cartagena and Bogota in\u00a0Colombia, Buenos Aires in\u00a0Argentina, Santiago in\u00a0Chile and Panama City in\u00a0Panama, completing the trip on\u00a0Friday, August 18.<\/p>\n

“At President [Donald] Trump’s direction, and in\u00a0a sign of\u00a0the high importance, he places\u00a0on\u00a0this region, in\u00a0August I will travel to\u00a0Central and South America. I will build on\u00a0the good work that has been done throughout\u00a0President Trump’s Administration to\u00a0bolster our shared economic and security goals,” Pence said ahead of\u00a0the visit as\u00a0quoted by\u00a0the Office of\u00a0the Vice President.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

According to\u00a0the Office, Pence\u2019s visit is aimed at\u00a0reaffirming Trump\u2019s commitment to\u00a0deepening bilateral ties with\u00a0the\u00a0countries\u00a0of\u00a0the region, in\u00a0particular in\u00a0trade and investment areas. Pence will also reiterate Washington\u2019s support of\u00a0cooperation in\u00a0security and business areas, as\u00a0well as\u00a0in agriculture and infrastructure development.<\/p>\n

At the same time, current US relations with\u00a0Venezuela\u00a0are far from\u00a0ideal.\u00a0On Friday, US President Donald Trump told reporters the United States would not rule out\u00a0taking military action against\u00a0Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro, citing a rising number of\u00a0protest-related deaths in\u00a0the country.<\/p>\n

Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino, in\u00a0turn, said Friday that Trump’s threat of\u00a0military action was an act of\u00a0craziness.<\/p>\n

In a statement later in\u00a0the day, the White House said Trump denied having a telephone conversation with\u00a0Maduro unless democracy is restored in\u00a0the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
