(PNA photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>MANILA, Aug. 10 &#8212;\u00a0The Department of Health (DOH) has recorded 43,770 cases of dengue fever nationwide in\u00a0the first half of the year.<\/p>\n<p>According to the latest Dengue Disease Surveillance Report, which covered the Jan. 1 to July 1 period, the figure is 36.8 percent lower than the 69,297 cases recorded in the same period last year.<\/p>\n<p>Of the 43,770 cases, 250 deaths were reported, 84 fatalities less than the 334 deaths in the same period in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Majority of the dengue cases were recorded in Central Visayas (6,281); National Capital Region (5,567); Central Luzon (5,147); Calabarzon (5,007); and Soccsksargen (4,861).<\/p>\n<p>Cebu topped the provinces with 11 percent, followed by South Cotabato with 6.3 percent, and Pampanga with 4.6 percent.<\/p>\n<p>All regions, except Metro Manila, showed decreasing trends compared to last year.\u00a0The National Capital Region showed a 24.9 percent increase from last year&#8217;s 4,457 cases.<\/p>\n<p>In line with this, the DOH\u00a0has renewed its call for local governments to intensify the Aksyon Barangay Kontra Dengue and the 4S campaign &#8212; to\u00a0Search and destroy mosquito breeding places; use\u00a0Self-protection measures;\u00a0Seek early consultation for fevers lasting more than two days; and\u00a0Say yes to fogging when there is an impending outbreak.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Dengue prevention should start from each and everyone. Make 4S a habit and participate in the\u00a0Aksyon\u00a0Barangay\u00a0Kontra\u00a0Dengue activities in our community.
