(Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/JhumpaLahiriAuthor\">Jhumpa Lahiri\/ Facebook<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>NEW YORK \u2013Two short fiction collections by Jhumpa Lahiri have convinced prize judges that she&#8217;s a worthy recipient of the PEN\/Malamud Award for Excellence in the Short Story.<\/p>\n<p>Lahiri will receive $5,000 and will read at a December ceremony in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n<p>The award selection committee on Wednesday praised her for \u201cdeep introspection\u201d and \u201cmeticulous attention\u201d to language. It cited her books \u201cUnaccustomed Earth\u201d and \u201cThe Interpreter of Maladies,\u201d a debut book of stories for which she won the Pulitzer Prize in 2000.<\/p>\n<p>She also has written the novels \u201cThe Lowland\u201d and \u201cThe Namesake.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Malamud prize is named for late author Bernard Malamud.
