GENEVA – Sotheby’s says its spring auction has sold a world record $141.5 million in jewelry.<\/p>\n

The auction house says seven records in all were set at the Geneva auction including the highest amount ever paid for a yellow diamond – $16.3 million for the 100.09-carat “Graff Vivid Yellow” diamond ring.<\/p>\n

It said Wednesday that the auction, featuring two diamonds over 100 carats, drew buyers from more than 30 countries.<\/p>\n

The second huge diamond, at 103.46 carats, is part of a Graff diamond ring that sold for $4.9 million.<\/p>\n

David Bennett, chairman of Sotheby’s Switzerland, said that “100 carats is a magical number when it comes to diamonds” and having two such rare gems at auction led to the record haul and intense bidding from around the globe Tuesday night.<\/p>\n
