NEW YORK \u2014 It was a rare TV reunion Tuesday as Stephen Colbert played host to a gang of fellow \u201cDaily Show\u201d alums on a special edition of CBS’ \u201cThe Late Show.\u201d<\/p>\n

Along with Jon Stewart, former longtime anchor of the Comedy Central fake newscast, Colbert welcomed Samantha Bee, John Oliver, Ed Helms and Rob Corddry, all of whom, like Colbert, sharpened their satirical skills and won fans as \u201cDaily Show\u201d correspondents before heading out on their own.<\/p>\n

Colbert joked, \u201cWe haven’t aged a day.\u201d<\/p>\n

A comic sketch flashed back to spoof Colbert’s departure from \u201cThe Daily Show\u201d in 2005.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can’t believe you’re leaving right in the middle of the George W. Bush administration,\u201d Bee told him. \u201cThere’s never gonna be another president this good for comedy. This guy does something ridiculous like at least ONCE every MONTH!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI can’t believe you’re leaving us,\u201d echoed Helms. \u201cIt’s like Beyonce leaving Destiny’s Child. We’re never gonna hear from HER again.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe’re a family,\u201d said Stewart, pretending to choke up, \u201cbut I guess I’m realizing that you’ll all spread your wings and leave me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Later, during his guest spot, Stewart told Colbert, \u201cI’ve been reading about you.\u201d Referring to Colbert’s attention-grabbing joke last week at the expense of President Donald Trump, he said, \u201cYou have a potty mouth.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat I do,\u201d Colbert replied. \u201cBut might I say, I learned it from you, Dad.\u201d<\/p>\n

Growing serious, Stewart told Colbert, \u201cThe things that you say, even if they’re crass, even if they in some ways are not respectful enough to the office of the presidency, can insult. But HE can injure. For the life of me, I do not understand why in this country we try and hold comedians to a standard we do not hold our leaders to.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stewart, who left \u201cThe Daily Show\u201d in 2015, said he misses that platform.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe process of making the show somehow became intwined with my process of making sense of things that I didn’t understand,\u201d he said, \u201cso I miss that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Later, Colbert gathered all of his guests to chat in a semicircle of chairs.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis arrangement we have right now,\u201d he said, \u201cis exactly something we would have made fun of on ‘The Daily Show’: It looks like a morning show.\u201d<\/p>\n

Currently, Stewart is developing a project for HBO, where Oliver hosts \u201cLast Week Tonight.\u201d Bee hosts \u201cFull Frontal\u201d on TBS. Helms scored with \u201cThe Hangover\u201d and its sequels and \u201cThe Office.\u201d Corddry created and starred in the comedy series \u201cChildrens Hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
