MANILA – Newly sworn-in President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on Thursday expressed condolences to the government of Turkey following the terror attack in one of its major airports in the city of Istanbul.
“Let me express the nation’s, in behalf of the people, our condolences to the Republic of Turkey to what has happened in the place. We offer our deepest condolences,” Duterte said during his inaugural speech at the Rizal Hall in Malacanang.
Over 40 people were killed while over a hundred others were injured when three suicide bombers staged a terror attack at the Istanbul Ataturk International Airport on Tuesday evening.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan ordered on Wednesday the observance of a day of national mourning following the deadly terror attack.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
