LEGAZPI City—Presidential aspirant and Senator Grace Poe expressed willingness on Thursday to sign waiver for her bank accounts, if necessary, in the spirit of transparency.
”Why not?,” Poe said when asked by the media at the Legazpi airport if she is ready to sign a waiver for her bank accounts.
Last Wednesday, Poe called on rival candidate Rodrigo Duterte to sign a waiver for his bank accounts amid allegation that the Davao City mayor did not declare his Php211 million bank account in his statement of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN).
”Alam mo, para sa akin lang, hindi sa sinasakyan ko itong isyu na ito, dalawang bagay ‘yan: importante ang privacy. Lahat naman kami kahit na government officials, siguro mas nangingibabaw ang transparency. So kung meron talagang kwestyon, I’m willing to do it,” Poe told the media.
Poe clarified that she is not angry when Senator Alan Peter Cayetano said that she is protecting Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, who exposed Duterte’s undeclared Php211 million bank accounts.
”Hindi ako napipikon. I’m just setting the record straight. Bakit ako ýung tinitingnan nya?,” Poe said.
She said Duterte should live up to his promise to sign a waiver for his bank accounts if Trillanes was not telling the truth about the senator’s expose.
Trillanes has come out with evidence that Duterte has Php211 million deposits at the Bank of the Philippine Island (BPI) Julia Vargas Ave. Branch in Pasig City that the mayor did not declare in his SALN.
In a press conference in Quezon City on Thursday, Trillanes said he will go to the BPI-Julia Vargas Branch in Pasig City at 11 a.m. on Monday to wait for Duterte to sign a waiver for the mayor’s bank accounts.
The Davao City mayor dared Trillanes to execute an affidavit on how and where the senator obtained the data claiming that Duterte has Php211 million bank deposits.
Duterte’s camp is reportedly considering filing charges against Trillanes.
