MANILA—The Manila Prosecutor’s Office (MPO) on Monday ordered the filing of criminal charges before the Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) against Paul Biteng, the arrested hacker of the website of the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
In a resolution signed by Manila Chief Inquest Prosecutor Joven Senados, a complaint for violation of some provisions of the Anti-Cybercrime Law involving illegal access, data interference and illegal use of devices were recommended filed against Biteng.
This was after the MPO found probable cause on the complaint filed by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
The MPO gave weight to the discovery by the NBI that the account used in hacking the Comelec website is owned by Biteng.
It added that there was also an indication that the computer and mobile phone seized when Biteng was arrested were used in the hacking of the Comelec website.
Biteng was placed under inquest proceedings after he was arrested in Sampaloc, Manila last April 20.
