National Food Fair ‘16 sales up 42%

MANILA – The Sikat Pinoy National Food Fair 2016 organized by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has increased its sales by 42 percent from its figure in 2015.

The Bureau of Domestic Trade Promotion (BDTP) reported on Monday that total sales of the recent National Food Fair reached PhP16.75 million from the PhP11.77 million it generated last year.

Of the total sales this year, PhP13.42 million represents cash sales and booked orders which went up by 27 percent from last year’s cash sales of PhP10.55 million.

Sales under negotiation for this year’s food exhibit amounted to PhP3.32 million.

Some 163 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from the 16 regions participated the Sikat Pinoy National Food Fair which showcased products such as processed fruits and vegetables, dairy products, snack food, condiments, processed marine and meat products, native delicacies, rice, sugar, various sweeteners and cooked food.

“Beyond the number of exhibitors or the gross value of transactions that we had, we also count among our achievements the opportunities that we have given to our food entrepreneurs,” said DTI Undersecretary Nora K. Terrado.

The fair also showcased three major local food products based on their domestic and global market presence which include coffee and cacao products, halal products and herbal teas, fruit juices and health supplements.

Among the top selling participants are Muñoz Science City Food Products, Catbalogan Samar Association of Food Processors and Edelyn’s Homemade Nuts.

Snack food, beverages, and condiments are the top selling products in the 2016 National Food Fair amounting to PhP12 million in revenues.
