MANILA – Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach has her hopes up that a back-to-back win in the prestigious pageant is possible for the Philippines.
“The possibility is always there. Why not?,” she said in an interview with the Philippine Star.
“It really depends on the girl. It depends on the winner. It depends on how hard she’s going to work for it, how hard she wants it, and if she’s going able to sustain the same kind of energy during the Bb. Pilipinas pageant towards the Miss Universe,” she added.
“You can be very confident here… With all the stunning other girls from different parts of the world, that’s the real challenge right there. But if you’re able to overcome it, then, there’s always the possibility.”
With the new batch of Binibinis to be crowned tomorrow night, pageant enthusiasts anticipate who among the 40 candidates will be named the 2016 Bb. Pilipinas-Universe to succeed Wurtzbach.
The Bb. Pilipinas pageant, which will be held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, will be hosted by Xian Lim and KC Concepcion and will be aired by ABS-CBN Network and The Filipino Channel.
Done deal? Not yet
Although speculations spread that the 2016 Miss Universe pageant will be held in the Philippines, the Miss Universe Organization, Binibing Pilipinas Charities, Inc. and Wurtzbach have yet to make an official announcement.
“I am actively campaigning and we all want the pageant to happen here… [But] it hasn’t been confirmed yet. I don’t know how far we are in making it happen. Is it a done deal? I don’t know. But yes, we do want the pageant to happen here,” she said in an interview with PEP.ph.
It can be noted that the beauty pageant has only been held twice in the country – in 1974 and 1994.
‘Miss Universe material’
Meanwhile, in an earlier statement, the Filipina beauty queen also noted how she saw potential in Kapamilya actress Liza Soberano in becoming a beauty queen someday, among other celebrities.
“Beauty of face… And she’s young and she can still train,” she explained. “There could be other celebrities that can be Miss Universe. Why not?”
