Ottawa – The Honourable Jason Kenney, Minister for Multiculturalism, issued the following statement celebrating the start of Passover:

“This evening, millions of people across Canada and around the world will gather at seder tables with loved ones to mark the beginning of Passover and to commemorate the Jewish people’s exodus from slavery in ancient Egypt.

“Passover is a time to celebrate the resilience of the Jewish people throughout the many triumphs and tragedies of their long history. As families sit around theseder table recounting the story of the Exodus to the next generation, we celebrate their strength of spirit and community.

“Passover also affords the opportunity for all Canadians to reflect on the importance of freedom, family, tradition, and faith and to think about those around the world who still struggle for basic rights and freedom.

“As Canada’s Minister for Multiculturalism, I extend my best wishes to Jews everywhere as they celebrate Passover. Chag Pesach kasher v’sameach.

Officially released 14 April 2014
