MANILA – Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) officially announced that Gilas Pilipinas head coach Tab Baldwin as the new head coach of the Blue Eagles replacing Bo Perasol who coached Ateneo from 2013-2015.
“I am pleased to announce the appointment of Thomas Anthony “Tab” Baldwin as Head Coach of our Men’s basketball team,” said ADMU President Jose Ramon T. Villain SJ, on his memo posted in Ateneo’s website.
“Many of you may know Coach Tab because of his great success with our Gilas Team which won the silver medal in the FIBA Asia tourney last October. Coach Tab is a multi-titled mentor who has extensive coaching experience internationally, having coached the national teams of Jordan, New Zealand, and Lebanon,” he said.
In the memo posted, Villarin also thanked Manny V. Pangilinan for bringing Tab Baldwin to Ateneo, and for his support, guidance, leadership, and constant care for the team.
“On behalf of the Ateneo de Manila, I would like to thank Coach Bo Perasol for leading our team these last three years. We remain truly grateful to him for all that he has done for us and we wish him all the best,” Villarin added.
The memo also stated that the team’s preparation for the 79th season of University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) will start this December and they are looking forward for the championship.
Though Blue Eagles’ Kiefer Ravena, Von Pessumal, Ponzo Gotladera, and Gwyne Capacio bid farewell, the team is confident enough to have a competitive team next season as Arvin Tolentino, Aaron Black, Adrian Wong, and the Nieto twins return to the team lineup.
