MANILA, PHILIPPINES – In celebration of Museums and Galleries Month, the National Museum complied with the Republic Act No. 9242 or the Tropical Fabrics Law for Public Officials and Employees, authored by Sen. Loren Legarda.
The RA No. 9242 prescribes the use of Philippine tropical fabrics for official uniforms of government officials and employees and for the purposes which require the use of fabrics in government offices and functions.
The employees of the National Museum changed their uniforms into woven fabrics. The work-friendly uniforms of the employees were designed by James Reyes.
The laboratory-assigned uniform consisting of hematite brown pants, white blouse/polo with Ikat Baguio collar and labcoat.
The polo sleeves of NM’s uniform are embroidered with Ikat of Baguio, which is the logo of the museum, and native tattoos.

We have to strengthen the tropical fabrics industry through the implementation of Republic Act 9242 or the Philippine Tropical Fabrics Law.
We should eagerly promote weaving as it will bring not only huge profits, but also recognition for the creativity and remarkable skill of Filipino weaver.
