Respected TV host Boy Abunda will not run for public office in 2016.
It will be recalled that in 2013, Abunda expressed his willingness to run as governor in Eastern Samar—his hometown.
But it seemed that his plans have already changed.
In an article posted on Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP) recently, the 58-year-old showbiz personality revealed that surely—he would not run in the 2016 national elections.
He cited several reasons, but on top of these was the condition of his ailing mom Licerna.
“Hangga’t inaalagaan ko ang nanay, ‘yun ang priority ko. Everything else comes second” he said. (As long as I am taking care of my mother, that’s my priority).
Aside from his mother’s health, Abunda also mentioned his “disappointments over the supposed corruption in the government,” including the controversial pork barrel scam, as one of the reasons why he had a change of heart in entering politics.
Nevertheless, he expressed his satisfaction with the performance of President Noynoy Aquino, “When I look at the president, he’s the most honest president we have had. He’s hardworking, he dedicated his life to this country.”
His sterling hosting career was also among the reasons why he chose not to join the growing circle of showbiz personalities-turned-politicians, “‘Am I willing to give up my more than 20 years in this business for a career na babatikusin lang ako kahit napakaganda ng aking intensyon?’ Ang dami mong iniisip na ganoon,” he said. (Am I willing to give up my more than 20 years in this business for a career that will just criticize me, despite of my very good intentions? Many things like that are running on your mind).
