MANILA – In a bid to improve its services and resolve outages, the country’s biggest power distributor Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) has invested P40 million to upgrade its System Control Center.
According to Meralco vice president and head of networks Ronnie Aperocho, the upgrades will give the company complete visibility on its franchise area and metering point.
“Through the smart meters and total visibility at our System Control Center, even before the customer would call us, we already deployed our crew to fix the problem,” said Aperocho.

The company will be able to swiftly determine the source of the problem in its franchise area through the new system platform, Meralco head of systems control Joey Alonzo said in the same event.
“Because of this, we will know the nature of the problem whether it is transmission, generation or distribution,” he added.
Aperocho also said that this project is their way of providing good service to their customers.
The System Control Center was created to meet the growing customer base of Meralco which is part of the Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) project. It will serve as the replacement of the obsolete Operating Trouble Management System (OTMS), which has been running since 1998.
The project is expected to be complete in 21 months.
