PCG rescues “Pawikan” rescued at Pier 13, Manila

MANILA — Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) personnel on Saturday recovered a “pawikan” or sea turtle at the port area in Manila.

On its official Facebook page, PCG said that the pawikan was recovered at Pier 13, Port Area by personnel of Coast Guard vessel AE 46.

According to the vessel’s personnel thesea turtle surfaced at the right side of their vessel around 12 noon.

It was turned-over to Ninoy Aquino Park and Wildlife Center in Quezon City for proper disposition.

Last week, fishermen captured a pawikan off Marabut, Samar.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is intensifying efforts for the protection of pawikans under the Pawikan Conservation Project.

Mere possession and killing of this species is punishable under the law.
