By on July 11, 2015

YORKTON, Sask. — CN Rail is reporting that 12 rail cars have derailed in the community of Ebenezer, which is north of Yorkton.

A spokeswoman for the railway says one car is empty, seven are carrying cement and four are carrying liquid sulphur.

Kate Fenske says some of the liquid sulphur has leaked, but the product has been contained and will be cleaned up.

RCMP briefly evacuated about 12 homes near the derailment as a precaution, but residents were later allowed to return to their homes.

Residents are being advised to remain in their homes during the cleanup.

Emergency responders and CN officials are on the scene and the incident is under investigation.
