Katerine Savard, Danielle Hanus win gold at Quebec Cup swimming competition

MONTREAL – Katerine Savard and Danielle Hanus each won gold on Sunday at the Quebec Cup swimming competition.

Savard, of Pont-Rouge, Que., finished first in her specialty event – the 100-metre butterfly – with a season best 58.12 seconds. Savard also won the 50 butterfly on Saturday. Montreal’s Mary-Sophie Harvey was second while Hannah Genich of Ajax, Ont., finished third.

Hanus captured the 50 backstroke in 28.88 after winning the 100 event on Saturday. Lily Bellehumeur-Bechamp and Sarah Fournier, both of Quebec City, were second and third.

Toronto’s Edward Liu won the men’s 100 butterfly, with Ryan Telford of Ajax, Ont., taking the 200 breaststroke.

Montreal’s Victoria Poon captured the women’s 50 freestyle and Edmonton’s Tabitha Baumann finished first in the 1,500 freestyle.
