MANILA – The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) officials are planning on raising the cash incentives of medalists in the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

“We’ll sit down to discuss the possible increase of the SEA Games incentives,” POC chair Tom Carrasco said in a report by the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

The PSC and POC officials invited POC president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr., Senate Committee on Games, Amusement and Sports Senator Sonny Angara and House Youth and Sports Development committee chair Representative Anthony Del Rosario in the said meeting.

“As to how much is the increase, we still don’t know. We’re going to talk about it,” Carrasco said.

But with regards to the current incentives, a gold medalist in the SEA Games gets P100,000, a silver medalist gets P50,000 and a bronze medalist gets P10,000.

“There were several discussions already in the House and Senate to increase the incentives, including the top Filipino performers in the Asian Games and Olympics,’’ Carrasco said, adding that both the Senate and the House were supportive with the incentives increase.
