MANILA – After ranking first in two recent presidential preferences survey, Senator Grace Poe also emerged as the most preferred vice presidential candidate and the best performing senator based from the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) and Pulse Asia polls, respectively.
The SWS survey, which was conducted from June 5 to 8, showed that 21 percent of the 1,200 respondents chose Poe as the country’s next vice president.
Despite remaining at the top of the list, the latest poll results, however, showed a five-point difference from the 26 percent who named Poe earlier this year.
The next preferred vice president was Interior Secretary Roxas with 12 percent. He was then followed by Senator Francis Escudero and Binay with 7 percent; Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada, Davao Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and former PNP chief Panfilo Lacson with 3 percent; Senators Miriam Santiago and Alan Cayetano with 2 percent; Senator Loren Legarda with 1.4 percent; and Senator Antonio Trillanes IV with 1.1 percent.
Other names which were mentioned as preferred vice presidents and got 1 percent and below were Batangas Governor Vilma Santos-Recto, Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Manila Vice Mayor Isko Moreno, Senator Ramon Revilla Jr., and Sarangani Representative Manny Pacquiao.
Eight percent of the respondents did not name a preferred vice president while 22 percent were undecided on their preferred candidate.
The SWS survey results were first published in the Business World newspaper.
The Pulse Asia poll, on the other hand, which was conducted from May 30 to June 5, showed that 93 percent of the 1,200 respondents named Poe as the best performing senator.
The next best performing senator was Escudero with 83 percent. He was then followed by Santiago with 81 percent, Cayetano with 76 percent, Marcos with 70 percent, and Senator Vicente Sotto III with 68 percent.
Prior the vice presidential and senatorial surveys, Poe had also topped earlier presidential preferences polls, escalating past Vice President Jejomar Binay who used to dominate the polls.
