MANILA – The Start Hotshots gained a fifth seed in the PBA Governor’s Cup quarterfinals, defeating Backwater Elite with 87-82. The team will then face Globalport on Friday.

“I think after Globalport won we just lost our energy a little bit and started the game really poorly,” Start Hotshots head coach Tim Cone said.

“If you asked me a month ago I would be really happy with 5th seed… Just that tonight we had an opportunity to get the 4th and that didn’t happen so we’re disappointed,” Cone added.

Marqus Blakely scored a total of 22 points for Globalport, Alex Mallari and Joe Devance added 12 points, PJ Simon got 11 points, and Mark Barroca and James Yap got 10 points each.

Marcus Cousin, on the other hand, garnered 21 points for Blackwater and Bambam Gamalinda added another 12 points.

Quarter scores: 19-21, 39-46, 67-64, 87-82.
