MANILA – Malacanang assured on Tuesday that the resignation of Vice President Jejomar Binay from the Aquino Cabinet will have no effect on the important public services, especially in the housing sector.

”Vice President Binay was the only official who resigned. So the essential public services under his former office will continue and will not be disrupted,” Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said in an interview with state-run DZRB.

Binay tendered his irrevocable resignation from the Cabinet of President Benigno S. Aquino III on Monday.

Binay was the presidential adviser on overseas Filipino workers’ concerns and chairman of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC).

Coloma said President Aquino has yet to decide on Binay’s replacement.

”And while the President is looking for replacement, we have a principle in the government which is ‘continuity and no disruption in essential public services.’ So there is nothing to worry about,” Coloma assured.

Coloma said all aspects of public services will continue in the HUDCC, including its attached agencies like Pag-IBIG Fund, National Housing Authority (NHA), Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLURB) and Home Guarantee Fund.

Binay was the first Cabinet member to resign with only four months left before the filing of certificates of candidacy in October by those aspiring for elective position.

Despite the allegations of rampant corruption, the Vice President has repeatedly expressed his intention to run for president in the 2016 elections.
