MANILA — Ayala-led Globe Telecom has posted mobile data revenues of Php 4.4 billion in the first quarter of the year, maintaining its dominance in mobile data business.

According to the telco, it mobile data revenues grew by 58 percent from previous year’s Php 2.8 billion and by eight percent from previous quarter’s Php 4.1 billion as of March 2015.

On the other hand, combined mobile Internet revenues of Smart and Sun went up by 19 percent to Php 2.2 billion from Php 1.9 billion in the same three months of last year.

Senior Advisor for Consumer Business at Globe, Dan Horan in a statement said that the telco’s growth in mobile data business reflects its position as “the purveyor of the Filipino digital lifestyle.”

He noted that the increase in mobile data services was due to the impact of its data adoption strategies from Free Facebook and Free Viber campaigns, and the growing smartphone and mobile browsing adoption among customers.

Horan also added that its mobile data business improved due to a better network experience with 100 percent 3G and 4G HSPA+ nationwide coverage as well as the increasing pervasiveness of its LTE network around the country.

At present, Globe is activating more cell sites with the LTE-TDD and LTE-FDD ultra broadband access technologies for a more pervasive LTE coverage nationwide to enhance its wireless network infrastructure.

The telco’s partnerships with global content providers also drove the growth of its mobile data business.

To recall, Globe has partnered already with Google, Facebook, Viber, Spotify, NBA, HOOQ, and WhatsApp to structure offers that aim to further seed mobile data adoption among its customers.

Just recently, the telco also signed a comprehensive and multi-year collaboration with The Walt Disney Company Southeast Asia to give Filipino customers access to video-on-demand, interactive content, promotions and other related services across multiple devices and affirms the relationship of Globe with Disney.
