RED DEER, Alberta — A man and woman from central Alberta are facing human trafficking charges after a 10-month investigation involving several motel employees.
Police say Alberta Employment Standards alerted RCMP last June to the alleged abuse of eight temporary foreign workers in Red Deer.
Varinder Sidhu, who is 49, and 46-year-old Ravinder Sidhu have been charged under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
Insp. Darcy Fleury of the RCMP’s serious and organized crime unit in Alberta says the two are related, but he’s not sure how.
He could not provide any details about the workers.
The Sidhus are to appear in Red Deer court on May 26.
