MANILA – In a television interview in “Bawal ang Pasaway kay Mareng Winnie” with host Winnie Monsod last Monday, Star for all Seasons and Batangas Governor Vilma Santos revealed that her husband, Senator Ralph Recto, once had an affair.
“There was one time umamin. Oh, eh di pinatawad ko. Tinanong ko, ‘Totoo ba itong ganyan-ganyan?’ Inamin naman niya, e, kaya napatawad ko,” she answered when Monsod asked her about cheating instances.
(There was one time he admitted. I forgave him. I asked, ‘Is this true?’ He owned up to his mistake that’s why I forgave him.)
“Ang usapan kasi namin, sabihin mo na sa akin diretso kaysa malalaman ko sa iba. Kasi ang malas niya napangasawa niya ako na nasa entertainment world. Kahit saan siya magtago, kilala ako, machichismis siya. Kasi kilala ako, eh sorry ka na lang,” she added.
(Our agreement was that he tells me directly rather than I hear it from someone else. Because he is unfortunate he married me, someone who is in the entertainment world. Wherever he hides, I’m known, he will be talked upon. Because I’m popular, sorry for him.)
With regards to affairs, Vilma’s rule was simple – if Ralph would have an affair, he should admit it because she would find out about it eventually.
“Kaya sabi ko, ‘Kung may gagawin ka at mahuli kita, aminin mo na kaysa madinig ko sa iba. Baka mapatawad pa kita,” she recalled.
(That’s why I said ‘If you will do something and get caught, admit it rather than I will hear it from others. Maybe I can forgive you.)
Vilma also shared how she met Ralph.
She was hanging out with other showbiz stars when he approached her, introduced himself and asked her to dance with him.
“Sabi niya, ‘Excuse me, my name is Ralph, Ralph Recto. May I dance with you?’ Sabe ko ‘Later,” she again recalled, this time laughing.
(He said ‘Excuse me, my name is Ralph, Ralph Recto. May I dance with you?’ I said ‘Later.’)
“Kaya nga po ako humanga, e, kasi ang lakas ng loob. Na-attract ako. Gwapo naman kasi siya, maganda magsalita. Alam mong may laman ang utak,” she added, still smiling.

Vilma and Ralph became a couple, got married and now have a son.
