MANILA, Philippines― As expected, emotions ran high when detained Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. visited his son, Cavite Vice Governor Jolo Revilla, at the Asian Hospital and Medical Center in Muntinlupa City on Tuesday afternoon.
“I’m sorry, Papa. I’m sorry,” the younger Revilla said, as his father hugged him.
Speaking in a televised press conference, Atty. Raymond Fortun, spokesperson of the Revillas, recounted the events of the meeting as follows: that “Senator Revilla entered the room and he saw his son. He was lying on the bed. The senator hugged Jolo. Jolo said ‘I’m sorry, Papa, I’m sorry’ to which he replied, ‘it’s all right, son, you have to be strong.”
Fortun also said that there has been no improvement in Jolo’s condition, detailing that the vice governor’s left lung has collapsed; a condition known as pneumothorax . He is also battling a fever, and has had a total of 800 cc of blood extracted from his system.
“He’s (Jolo) in a lot more pain now than yesterday,” Fortun added.
Jolo was rushed to the hospital on Saturday afternoon, on account of what was initially thought to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest. Later reports said that the wound was sustained when the gun accidentally fired as Jolo was cleaning it.
Senator Revilla, who is detained on charges of plunder relative to the P10-billion pork barrel scam, was given by the Sandiganbayan until 8pm of Tuesday to visit his son.
