MANILA – Malacanang on Sunday urged the public to exercise caution and safety consciousness as the Fire Prevention Month starts.
”Again, the government is reminding everybody about the importance of being cautious all the time and being vigilance in protecting their houses and work places at the start of Fire Prevention Month this month,” Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said in a statement over Radyo ng Bayan.
Under theme ‘Kaligtasan sa Sunog: Alamin, Gawin, at Isabuhay’, Coloma said the Bureau of Fire Protection of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) is set to conduct programs and activities to assure the safety of the people again threat of fire brought by summer months.
”One of the precautionary measures is to check the electrical wiring systems, connections, outlets and appliances and information dissemination regarding the dangers brought by fire under Republic Act 9514 o Revised Fire Code of the Philippines of 2008,” Coloma said.
The Fire Prevention Month started in 1966 under Proclamation 115-A which assigned a particular aspect of safety and accident prevention to each month of the year.
The proclamation promotes “safety consciousness among our people every day of the year as a positive preventive approach to a problem that can be solved by more caution, vigilance, sobriety, exercise of common sense and respect for the law.”
According to the data from the National Statistical Coordination Board, the month of March has the most recorded fire incidents nationwide.
