ST. JOHN’S, N.L. — Forecasters in Newfoundland say a blizzard is poised to strike the eastern half of the island Thursday.
Up to 40 centimetres of snow is in the forecast for the Avalon Peninsula, which includes St. John’s.
Between 20 and 30 centimetres of snow is expected to the west in Clarenville, Marystown and Grand Falls-Windsor.
Meteorologist Brian Walsh says another storm is expected to hit western Newfoundland on Friday, bringing 20 centimetres of snow to an area still digging out from back-to-back storms.
Meanwhile, that same storm is bearing down on the Maritimes.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Nova Scotia, saying there is considerable uncertainty with the track of the low-pressure system.
However, forecasters say there is potential for significant snowfall and winter storm conditions on Friday.
