MANILA – Makati City Mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay and five other individuals who were cited in contempt of the court have been ordered arrested by the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee.
The five other Makati officials are Atty. Eleno Mendoza, Ms. Eduviges Ebeng Baloloy, Marjorie de Veyra, Engineer Line Dela Pena, and Bernadette Portollano.
The decision was reached by the committee on Monday afternoon, based on the advice of Senator Aquilino Pimentel III, who made the recommendation for the arrest of Binay and the other officials due to their continued disregard of an ongoing Senate probe.
Prior to making his recommendation, Pimentel had earlier called for the arrest of University of Makati president Tomas Lopez based on the same allegations. Pimentel, however, retracted this recommendation against Lopez when the latter submitted in writing that he would be at the next hearing.
The committee’s sergeant-at-arms will be working with the Philippine National Police to carry out the arrests.
