SEOUL – Undisclosed sources in the semiconductor industry have revealed that Apple Inc. has tapped Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. – South Korean technology giant – to be the main supplier of processors powering the next iPhone. The report was carried by South Korean news source, Maeil Business Newspaper on Monday.
According to the article, approximately 75 percent of the chip production for the next iPhone will be taken care of by Samsung, which will manufacture the chips from its factory in Austin, Texas, USA.
No details as to contract price were indicated in the report, neither could the report be confirmed or refuted with representatives from Samsung or Apple.
