Police raid homes of 2 New Year’s Eve indiscriminate gun firing suspects

Camp Diego Silang, La Union – Police agents conducted a raid on the residences of two of the eight men charged with alarm and scandal for their involvement in the incident of illegal discharge of firearms during a New Year’s Eve celebration in Barangay San Antonio, Narvacan, Ilocos Sur. The photos and videos of the eight men indiscriminately firing their weapons to ring in 2015 went viral on Facebook.

Regional chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group 1,Sr. Supt. Francisco Esguerra, said that the operatives raided the houses of Cesar Funtanilla and Geronimo Gomez, on search warrants issued by Judge Marita Balloguing of the Vigan City Regional Trial Court.

Esguerra said, however, that the team did jot find any firearms in the residences of the susopects.

The six remaining suspects – all of whom are residents of Barangay San Antonio in Ilocos – are Mark R-Jay Cabana, Jumar Cabreros, Ian Cristopher Calixterio, Russel Funtanilla, Philip Andrew Funtanilla, and Mark Cachola,
In reaction to the New Year’s incident, Ilocos Sur Governor Ryan Singson asked Chief Insp. Rex Buyucan, chief of police of the Narvacan police station, to step down from his post.
