The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) reported that more than 44,000 people across16 cities and towns in Negros Occidental were displaced by tropical storm “Seniang,” which hammered the Visayas region over the last two days.
The agency likewise said Seniang completely destroyed 11 houses, and partially ruined 87 others.
Meanwhile, a 32-year-old man remains in critical condition at the Intensive Care Unit of Bacolod Adventist Medical Center after he was electrocuted by downed high-voltage wires. The PSWDO identified the victim as Jay Dingson of Barangay San Vicente, Binalbagan town.
Reports of the PSWDO indicated the town of San Enrique was the worst hit; with all nine villages of the town having been inundated with floodwaters brought on by the storm.
The areas of Binalbagan town, Himamaylan City, Silay City, Isabela, Pulupandan town, and Escalante City were also severely affected.
In the wake of Seniang, PSWD Officer Liane Garcia said that all evacuation centers have since been cleared, except for the one in Binalbagan, as the villages in the area remain underwater.
Local government units, as well as the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council and the Department of Social Welfare and Development, have distributed relief goods to families affected by Seniang in Negros Occidental.
