Agri, infra losses to ‘Ulysses’ now over P10-B

MANILA – The losses in agriculture and infrastructure due to Typhoon Ulysses, which devastated parts of Luzon last week, have now hit over the PHP10-billion mark, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Thursday.

In its update, the NDRRMC said agriculture damage was placed PHP4,017,999,590 in Regions 1, 2, 3, Calabarzon, 5, the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and the National Capital Region (NCR).

Meanwhile, infrastructure damage was estimated at PHP6,097,472,576 in Regions 1, 2, 3, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, 5, CAR, and the NCR.

Houses damaged by “Ulysses” was placed at 65,222 with 6,050 classified as “totally damaged” and 59,172 as “partially damaged” in Regions 1, 2, 3, Calabarzon, 5, and the CAR.

The number of affected families is now at 835,599 or 3,512,784 persons in 5,898 barangays in Regions 1, 2, 3, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, 5, NCR, and the CAR.

Of these numbers, some 55,352 families or 221,437 persons are being aided in 1,525 evacuation centers while 65,927 families or 230,389 individuals are being aided outside evacuation hubs.

Meanwhile, the death toll remained at 73, with the number of injured still at 24, and 19 missing.
