Over 1K Covid-19 recoveries bring total to 275K

MANILA – The Department of Health (DOH) on Friday reported 1,045 recoveries from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), bringing the country’s total recoveries to 275,307.

In its daily Covid-19 bulletin, it said there were 2,996 newly reported cases of Covid-19, bringing the country’s active cases to 53,311.

Of these active cases, it said the majority or 85.8 percent have mild symptoms, those with no symptoms at 9.9 percent, those in critical or life-threatening situations at 3 percent, and with severe symptoms at 1.4 percent.

Of the new cases, it said the National Capital Region (NCR) again reported the highest number of cases at 1,094, followed by Cavite with 282, Batangas with 166, Iloilo with 152, and Laguna with 147.

It also reported 83 new deaths bringing the country’s total to 6,152.

The number of confirmed deaths per week nationwide, meanwhile, continues to have a general decreasing trend, with the highest number of weekly deaths last recorded back on August 6 to 13.

Beds for Covid-19 patients also continue to free up, with less than half of all Covid-19 beds nationwide occupied, while 24 percent of the country’s 2,100 ventilators in use.

It added that the country’s 1,900 beds at intensive care units (ICU) are 47 percent occupied, 45 percent of 13,300 isolation beds, and about 43 percent of the country’s 5,400 ward beds.

In NCR, more than half of Covid-19 beds are occupied, higher than the rest of the country, while 29 percent of the region’s 844 ventilators are in use.

Specifically, 57 percent of NCR’s 714 ICU beds are occupied, 53 percent of its 3,900 isolation beds, and 52 percent of its 1,700 ward beds.

In Region 7 Central Visayas, only about a quarter of Covid-19 beds are occupied while 26 percent of its 179 ventilators are in use.

Out of Central Visayas’ 161 ICU beds, 22 percent is occupied; 1,000 isolation beds are 33 percent occupied; while 21 percent of its 351 ward beds are in use.
