ZAMBOANGA CITY -– The San Ramon Power, Inc. (SRPI) announced that the construction of its 100-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power plant in this city is set to start by yearend or in the first quarter of next year.
SRPI project officer-in-charge Archie Donato made this announcement Saturday citing the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has already given them a provisional authority.
Donato said the issuance of the provisional authority by ERC on the Power Sales Agreement (PSA) between the SRPI and the Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative (Zamcelco) will eventually lead to the final approval of the PSA.
Donato said the ERC “is now in the process of finalizing the decision, which may take from two to three weeks.”
He said the power plant will be built by the Dailyn Corporation, a Korean construction firm that also constructed the coal-fired Sarangani Power Plant, Inc. of the Alsons Power Incorporated.
The coal-fired power plant of the SRPI will be constructed inside the Zamboanga City Special Economic Zone Authority and Freeport at San Ramon in Barangay Taliyasan, west of this city.
The construction of the power plant was earmarked to start in October of 2013 but was delayed as the ERC has yet to approve the PSA it entered with Zamcelco.
Stipulated in the PSA is that the SRPI will supply 85-MW of electricity to the local electric cooperative.
