MANILA — Globe Telecom has announced that its Free Facebook (FB) service is making a comeback beginning next week.

“Starting next week, all Globe users can enjoy sharing, liking and posting on FB for free!” Globe said in a text message and on its FB account.

The country’s second largest telecommunications company made the statement hours after its rival, the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Corp (PLDT) announced its free but limited mobile internet access starting next month.

This means that all prepaid subscribers of PLDT including Smart, Talk ‘N Text, and Sun Cellular can use their data-enabled cellphones to visit their favorite websites all without incurring data charges.

Globe did not reveal details as to what date its Free Facebook service can start to be used by its subscribers but asked to stay tuned.

Last Friday, Globe also reacted to PLDT’s free internet promo saying that it was the first telco to pioneer free FB and is “flattered” and “honored” that its competitor has decided to follow the lead they have set.

“We wish to thank them for the compliment and wish them the best of luck,” Globe SVP Yoly Crisanto said in an earlier statement.

“We look forward to more vigorous competition to come,” she added.

The Free Facebook service is available to Globe postpaid, prepaid and TM subscribers.

To recall, Globe’s Free Facebook service was first launched in October 2013 allowing subscribers to access the social networking site with no data charges.
