MANILA – At least 13 U-turn slots along Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) will soon be closed to give way to the extension of the EDSA Busway.

During a Laging Handa briefing on Monday, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) General Manager Arturo “Jojo” Garcia said the U-turn slots will gradually close, with no exact dates yet on its implementation.

Alam naman natin ang ginagawang bus lane nasa middle lane, so if ever na itutuloy na natin iyan ay maaapektuhan ang U-turn slots (We know that the EDSA bus lane is in the middle lanes, once it extends, U-turn slots will be affected),” Garcia said.

According to data released by the MMDA, these 13 EDSA U-turn slots are in Caloocan City, Quezon City, Makati City, and Pasay City.

In Caloocan City, these include the U-turn slot in General Tinio, in De Jesus Street/8th Street left turning, and in General Malvar — all located between Monumento Circle to Balintawak Cloverleaf.

“All affected vehicles must take a turn at Monumento Circle (northbound to southbound) and Balintawak Cloverleaf (southbound to northbound) to destination,” the MMDA said.

It noted that vehicles coming from the North Luzon Expressway headed for or taking left at De Jesus/8th Street must go straight and take A. Bonifacio Avenue, then right at C3/Sgt. Rivera to their destination.

In Quezon City, there are a total of seven U-turn slots that will soon be closed, all located between Balintawak Cloverleaf to Quezon Avenue.

These are the Balintawak Market U-turn slot in front of BPI bank, Kaingin Road U-turn slot in front of Nissan, Congressional LRT Station U-turn slot in front of PANORAMA, Corregidor intersection/Bansalangin U-turn slots, U-turn slots in front of Quezon City Academy, and North Avenue U-turn slots before MRT North Avenue Station.

“All affected vehicles must take a U-turn at Balintawak Cloverleaf (northbound to southbound) and Quezon Avenue (southbound to northbound) towards destination,” the MMDA said.

The seventh and last U-turn slot in Quezon City that will soon close is the Santolan/Boni Serrano U-turn in front of Camp Crame.

“All affected vehicles along EDSA and coming from White Plains must take a u-turn using the service road/intersection under Santolan flyover (northbound to southbound) to destination,” the MMDA said.

In Makati City, the U-turn slot under the Kalayaan Flyover will be closed and all affected vehicles coming from Guadalupe (southbound to northbound) must instead take a U-turn using the service road or intersection of EDSA/Ayala Avenue.

In Pasay City, the P. Celle U-turn slots and the U-turn slot before Roxas Boulevard near Heritage Hotel will be closed — both located between Taft Avenue and Roxas Boulevard.

It said that affected vehicles coming from FB Harrison (northbound to southbound) will need to take the U-turn slot under the Magallanes flyover, while vehicles from south going north will need to take the signalized intersection or MOA Circle.
