The gears for distance learning are not slowing down as the country resumes classes on August 24. Likewise, nothing stopped National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab from using his music to help.
It was on Tuesday, July 14 when the maestro led a free concert virtually. Entitled At Home with PLDT: No Learner Left Behind, together with several Original Pinoy Music (OPM) icons, Cayabyab was able to raise over P1 million. These funds will be used to aid the transition of the country’s education sector into distance learning, which is heavily reliant on gadgets and internet connection, all because of the current pandemic crisis.
The funds raised will be used to provide internet and digital tools to students and communities in need.
Directed by Paolo Valenciano, other OPM artists that joined Cayabyab were Ogie Alcasid, Regine Velasquez, Martin Nievera, and Pops Fernandez.
Local theater artists Jon Santos, Gian Magdangal, Gabriela Pangilinan, Sheila Valderama, 8 Taal Ensemble, Flord Tena, David Ezra, Lara Maigue, Yanah Laurel, and Arman Ferrer were also part of the concert.
“Music unites us. This concert brings us together in the spirit of ‘bayanihan’ to help the underprivileged communities – especially the students, teachers, and schools – who are now facing a lot of challenges in online distance learning. We hope that through this online concert, we’re able to unite as one country and contribute for the future of these children,” Cayabyab previously said.
