As the calendar pages flip, a lot of events get canceled because of the pandemic crisis that the world is currently battling. But for Surrey Philippine Independence Day Society (SPIDS), this is the perfect opportunity to launch a month-long blood donation drive with the Canadian Blood Services.
Every June, the Filipino Heritage Month, the organization holds its yearly Philippine Independence Day event in Surrey. However, this 12th year of the celebration that was supposed to be on June 6 had to be canceled because of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), where there are restrictions and health concerns with mass gatherings.
While the main event will not push through, SPIDS decided to give back to the community.
SPIDS members covered the song “If We Hold On Together” by Diana Ross, along with the announcement of the drive.
